Most this stuff is super old and hard to follow.
If you are just importing non animated models (like mapmodels) i suggest using the object files this is much easier to deal with.
also look at the model ref on how to define the tris and the textures:

the eaest thing is just to create a folder in side of models
then put the model and the textures in it
then create a new text file chaning the extention to .cfg, and naming it model.cfg
then just type the commands you want to use inside
