What happened?

Checking back on the site and content after 2 years of inactivity and just wondering... What happened? There is like no good content anymore. The content in highly rated section is the same from 2009. Did EVERYONE leave?

BTW: Hello old friends :) skiing penguins especially. Is Redon gone? :(

I think the high rated content is not reachable anymore due to the few active users. There are also just a handful of good content, from rabe, fatality, Pyccna (some interesting models) and others i dont remember.
Redon is not active in sauer, he was in some months in 2013 with mX, and we made a beach map, but he is still connected in skype, i normally see him as inactive.

Perhaps there will be good content over a week or so (when I finally finished the map).

Redon left the scene long ago and skiingpenguins seems like he is going to. Such a shame they haven't really left much people to replace them (or those guys left as well).
The people that are active can't submit content on the fly as they have not that much spare time anymore. Then again, we could use more users.

Do not look at the highly rated content page anymore; it's not where Quadropolis is really about.

I suppose I will have to finish Alloy 2 without Redon. A lot of the textures he developed for it. I need to contact skiing penguins so he can teach me how yo use the new version of sauer like he always did xD

What about unstarring all those annoying polls and discussions, so the first thing you see, when entering quad, would actually be content (maps, models, mods)?

Right now the first thing you see is that scary give-money-for-update-poll ...

Good idea, now if only the admins would set back their opinions on users and judge content based on the content, not the user who posted it, then things would work out. (I know amazon is star worthy and I've been told that, but the admins here hate me so might as well give up :D)

I agree, the front page is unnatractive. If I didn't know what quad was I wouldn't be interested and would leave the page. Right now it is 2 maps, a bunch of polls and unnecessary things that IMO don't need to be right on the front page, and two games that have been around long enough to be bumped down. It just looks like a bunch of spam and is ugly, it would be nice to have more interesting content. Not only for regular users, but first timers to the site as well, like cool maps and scripts. You could also change the fact the recently commented starred posts are bumped to the top to keep things in order.

You don't know what the absent admins here have to deal with :P That suggestion is actually not possible.

it would be nice to have more interesting content. Not only for regular users, but first timers to the site as well, like cool maps and scripts.
This, however is possible to do with this ancient version of drupal.

I personally haven't posted anything here, or even opened Sauerbraten, for almost a month. (Hello again All!)

For me, it's mainly an issue of time and creative energy. I was never particularly prolific (or particularly good, for that matter) of a mapmaker, but more recently, I haven't had much desire to make maps. The only thing I've finished this year that I also started this year was a couple simple race maps. Instead, I've spent my creative energy on projects for my education. I just finished up designing an art gallery.

The overall point here is that for a lot of people, one thing can be their driving ambition for a while, but it can't always be their top priority. For me, Sauerbraten has not even been on my list of things I'd LIKE to accomplish recently. I feel like for a lot of people, it's sort of the same way.

Im kinda liking the look of tesseract, but yeah, red eclipse is cool too. Ive played it before. I suck at shooting and at the time the editing was too different from sauer. I suppose since im starting over again i can give it another try.

True. There are periods without any creative energy. I just made a ctf layout and got stuck. No idea, how to texture or go with that. No way to force inspiration to come. Instead I am polishing older maps at the time, which can be fun, too.
