it should be just as red as the standard blood since the texture has no own colour it gets coloured by the game.

They always want like half the size of what you produce, same with my explosion texture :|

Also, jpg sucks. For some reason, good gradients get messed up.

Uhm, because JPEG is a lossy-compression - basically it tries to take as big blocks as possible and set them to the same colour; that's the source of artifacts. Use PNG if pixel-perfect is what you need and still want to be lower in filesize than a BMP :-)

I know what jpg does and what the artifacts are, but the loss depends on the quality selected before saving the image. For most textures, quality from 90% to 100% shows very little difference, but for skyboxes the changes can be enormous.

png has less color depth meaning less colors leading to the same blocking problem, but rather them being grouped in squares like jpg does it just has a smaller palette to work from :)

but in this case really its just preference cause most honestly blood texture need not be larger than 512x512 .. unless you want to turn fov to 10 and stand right over it and not see pixelation ;p

Those of us making the games have to think about how much memory your textures are taking up, and 2048^2 = 4MB :P

2048^2 skyboxes are big anyway. They might retain their details for bigger resolutions, but they can take up to like 10 seconds to load. Then again, 512^2 isn't large enough to appear correctly, and some skyboxes suffer from both size and compression artifacts. It's mainly why i'm trying so hard to get new stuff in the game. =P

Lets compromise, and go 1280x1280, :}

Alternatively, here's an idea for you:
Render a high res sky-box, and save a duplicate low res box, and then have a sky-box detail slider in the options menu.

If somebody is complaining that it takes too long too load and that it looks too good, then they can change it.

As it seems to be able to "claim it's yours", you can distribute it (if that's your question). If that's not your question, then what's the big deal :S?

Every sane person would say it's completely obvious.

A legal person might argue that you could claim it's yours without distributing, so the two are separate actions which both require specific permission, and this is why they get all sadface when you write your own license ;)

Anyhow, in order to appease these legal people, in order to get it into Debian, the request stands..
