compiling?

i looked at the tutorial on the wiki, no help there. so i then looked around some more and found out the file that was for the current one, but then code::block was not working with me. how do you guys generally compile?

Please - don't double post! - as I already replied on the (most unappropriately selected) SauerJoy thread (which had been dead for 3 years): "we" usually don't have issues, the MingW shipping with Code::Blocks (for Windows) used to be broken IIRC - since I only did some small try-outs with MingW (before ever knowning about CB) and it was a bit of a pain but I managed to get it to work, but as I said - this was 3-4 years ago - nothing current.
You should probably be a bit more in-depth with whatever problem you have, but if you can't even compile an easy bit of C code (see below) then you should most probably ask on the CB community for help on their product.
Try compiling this:

if the question is: What program should i use to compile the code?

You need to use vbe (Visual Basic Express), this is free on the Microsoft website. Simply go here and follow the links.

If you have a mac u will need to download xcode (i do believe) but im not exactly sure.

Once this is downloaded then open the program select open solution, and then go to src/vcpp and click on saurbraten.sln . This will open all the file that make the saurbraten.bat file. So to compile this code simply click the play button (or compile button) located in the tool bar. If you have any question on this process just look up vbe help.

VBE? Build a .BAT file? You clearly haven't got a clue.
Visual Basic is a sorry excuse for a programming language; what you probably meant to say was "Visual Studio Express", which is the (stripped down) IDE from Microsoft.
And FYI: a BATch file (that's what it stands for) is - just like Visual Basic - not compiled but run through an interpreter, in this case the shell or COMMAND.EXE - that's something that was compiled: a so-called binary or executable file.
C::B - a free open-source IDE - works fine, albeit the possible pitfall of broken MingW shipping with it. If you can't get that fixed you might try VSE - the link posted was probably correct, it had something about visual-CPP in it .. else go look for it in your favourite manner, I can't really help you with Windows stuff, gave it up years ago :-)

That specific part was meant with humor.

However if you and Windecker would like to solve whatever ongoing feud you two cant seem to get past, I would personally thank you. While your verbal sparring is at times humorous, it annoys me to no end to see:

Only for it to be you two bickering over mere technicalities and petty grammar disputes. I wont take sides in any of your arguments, I just would like them to cease.

Do you two think you can come with a grown up truce of sorts?

Windecker will probably eventually fade into rarely posting and mostly lurking and tagging, just like the rest of us moderators. :)
