Though the map showed off some interesting things, such as doors and the music change at the end, it leaves a lot to be desired. None of the secret areas are available, the health boost does not equivelate to the health bonuses in doom, ect. In addition, I ha to manually rename the midi files, being a linux user, though that issue has already been talked to death.
Though recreating doom is an interesting concept (that perhaps even I may explore), it has t be adapted to sauerbraten's world and gameplay. For example, instead of cutting the lift and the secret outside area, perhaps you could have used a jumppad and a trigger. The same goes for the hidden rocket launcher.
It also might have been nicer if the level was a little longer, just because it is a lone level, unlike a doom IWAD. This would kill the map01 recreation idea entirely however. But, something to keep in mind is, when you recreate something, you are limiting yourself to it. When you are inspired by something, you use it as the base for your work and create something beutiful.
