Hulk Mode

Hello everyone, DeathStar here.

You may know me as the leader of va|VoxelArmy http://www.voxelarmy.com or as the lead developer of the QServ Server mod

I have created a new mode called Hulk in which a person is randomly selected at the beginning of each match to be the hulk.

What's so great about the hulk you ask? Well he gets 1500 health, 1200 armor, and 100000 ammo. All he has to do is complete the objective (score flagruns/kill others/capture bases/hold the flag) and live for 10 minutes. If the others kill him before 10 minutes is up, he is defeated and another hulk is chosen.

sounds like saxon hale from the tf2 series, or jugernut from the halo series. I nv found these one vs all mods fun. But you need to make the objectives static enough so that the hulk, doesnt just run around for the time and make it annoying to chase. I assume he has an attack. So you should make this attack either small ranged melee or very telegraphed. Basically the goal of the attack would be to stop players from standing still and doing damage. I find these games very hard to balance cuz there are any number of ways to break these games types. But gl

I agree, I find it hard to balance these types of modes.

In team modes like ctf, the health is set to 2000 and 1500 armor, however in non-teamplay games such as ffa, the health is 1500 and the armor is 1200. I will continue to balance the sheer health of the hulk and probably also the weaponry. Right now it's unlimited chaingun ammo.

Honestly I find these modes very boring, due to the fact that each team is basically forced to do the exact same thing to solve the problem. There is very little room for challenge or strategy because it simply comes down to can the "hulk" hide long enough or stay away from the masses, so he doesnt die, until he completes said objective. And can the other people actually work together enough to do enough damage. It's not normally all that fun, and you are really limited to only a few very selective strategies, which normally leads to very static game play. I think the only way I've seen this kinda game play be fun, is when the "hulk" is an ai character, this presents some new challenges, as its less about destroying the "hulk" and more about exploiting the intelligence. Though that said the only real example of this being widely popular is tf2 mann v machine. Though there are some escort like game modes in various games that have a similar kind of game play, but play more like a slow double assault game mode. I think that you may need to add some reasons to keep the hulk from running and hiding. And some reasons to keep the team from sitting on the objective point and waiting. Though I think this kinda gameplay mode, at least as a simple mod would not really be all that resilient. It could be fun for a little bit but it gets bulky fast.
