WTF! Positive comments on cphills are really blocked now!?
This is going way too far.

The last comments which have been putted on that node weren't about cphills anymore, rather about criticizing other people's comments. Now let it rest. I can't (and won't) do more than apoligize of what I've done on that certain node. Take it or leave it.

a) How was my comment irrelevant to the topic? After all the topic here is Raz's "FUCK YOU". Hardly relevant to quadropolis.
b) You could have done more, or rather "less". You could not have blocked one of the most unique contents in a long time from ever being noticed by a broad audience. For example, you could have moved my comment elsewhere or you could have taken the discussion somewhere else or simply asked to take it somewhere else
c) I didn't and won't insult anyone, I try to argue based on facts and I disagree with you sometimes. No reason to censor me and especially no reason to punish others (so sorry, Cooper)!
d) I won't ragequit quadropolis. If you do not want different opinions from yours, you'll have to block me. (I remember a time when we agreed on most points and had many nice matches and talks together. That was before you got so much involved here)
e) Have a look at nodes with the comments being closed. I bet you won't find more than one where it wasn't Raz or you who participated in the discussion.

a) Your content was irrelevant as it has nothing to do with installing content into Sauerbraten (regardless of being 1 big sick and kind of misplaced joke).

b) Done that. Now stop criticizing people's actions and rather constructively judge and comment about the map (instead of giving it 10/10 on instant). I gave proper reasons why I did that judgement yet people ignored most of them.

c) I'm never into insulting anyone. I try to keep a certain amount of peace within discussions on Quadropolis (on the other hand, people still should be able to give a certain opinion about the given topic).

d) I won't block someone just because he has a different opinion, neither delete a certain comment with that reason. I delete comments (but most of the time censor them) when they are way out of place, contain a certain amount incorrect information or just harmful. Feel free to still agree (or disagree) with most of my points, as long as you don't put my limits in patience or personal critique to the test (this isn't only your work though).

e) To be fair, it was me who closed cphills, it was me who deleted your comment about me (why creating a comment like that when you care that much about that node? It's asking for trouble) and it was me which has censored your comment on this node. Why? Read what I've said above more as twice please.

f) Don't blame moderators to close a thread, they don't do so because they love to close threads.

b) Good. Now check your facts. I didn't give it 10/10 and even if I did: If you don't want it that way, don't make it possible. I pointed out why your reasons for your rating are faulty, but you deleted that comment. Basically, I was saying that you used eihrul's own rating system (which is targeted towards playable maps potentially being included in the game) on an artistic map, which is not a good idea.

c) True, nobody said otherwise. But you have a tendency to participate in discussions which end up becoming off-topic. I'm not saying this is your fault, but let me put it this way: you're also part of it.

d) The only harmful content around is http://www.quadropolis.us/node/3759 as it is harmful to the whole community and the perception of the Sauerbraten community in the public. I hope it is considered constructive criticism if I say: Get rid of it.

e) "why creating a comment like that when you care that much about that node?" Simple: I had never assumed the whole content would be shut down because of a single comment which also could have been censored or moved elsewhere.

f) This wasn't a "flamewar". It was one ad hominem comment by me directed at you which was out of the line (apologies for that), but in my defense, the language was inspired by the supposedly preferred tone here on quadropolis (http://www.quadropolis.us/node/3759). What you call a flamewar started as a reaction to closing the content, which I'm glad has been reversed. So technically, "About the shutting down comments flamewar" would be the correct term.

g) Just another word concerning (c): You feel the need to comment on a lot of things which is - in principle - a good thing because it keeps the community alive and because you're skilled and give excellent advice most of the time. But you also participate in one or another off-topic comments-exchange and many one-line back-and-forth comment threads which often end up becoming off-topic. So most of the time, you don't mind a little off-topic. Good, because all this should also be fun! But when there's an argument going on between you and someone else, you very quickly decide that it is off-topic. My suggestion would thus be: Whereever possible, moderators should not censor, delete or close comments of a content where they themselves actively participated in. Shutting down comments should be the very last measure and only be applied if everything else fails.

First of all I would like to say I respect certain replies, yet I have to make several things clear once and for all.

About installing content into Sauerbraten
Just forget that content. You're trying to link your beloved content with a node which you dislike. Just don't do so and I won't either.

About the comments on cphills
Maybe you haven't voted 10/10 for it, but you forgot certain facts. I may have replied to you, yet I also keep in mind others' probably are reading this also and those potentially could rate it like that.
I remember you stated something about the lighting on evilness. This is one of the worse moves you can make when someone which just indirectly notified before your move that he's reaching his limits of patience and personal critique. It also is irrelevant to the subject as the exampled map has nothing to do with cphills at all, except the person which commented before, which is me.
So it's a personal attack to throw up a map of the commenter's just to make his comment look less valuable. Don't blame me for deleting such comments.
Also stating that someone's' comment is an opinion is searching for obviousness, as it always is. What makes opinions different from each other is that they can be supported with facts (this actually replies back to one of Cooper's statements).

Now let's travel a day back.
It should not be taken into question that the first comment itself isn't constructive (especially compared to statements as Amazing work, 10/10). Why? Because such statements speak for their selves. You can also just vote 10/10 and leave no comment. There is no feedback in it at all.
Cooper probably wasn't suspecting such feedback, as his reply shows off. I won't quote that just to keep this reply shorter than a page. I won't go into detail about this as it's irrelevant to the topic.
Now other people start to read my statements. I'll repeat it once more as I've always stated.
The artistic content section should not be used to dump projects which are irrelevant to gameplay or flow, as well as not being finished.

Lately, my judgement about how to actually approach an artistic node is being criticized. Why? Because I rate them lower as the average rating. What's my reason for that? Because as you can't judge gameplay neither flow (and geometry a bit as well) on such content. Is it fair to judge other points harder when at least 2 (merged clipping with flow) of 6 points are not being counted? Yes as you shouldn't receive a bonus rating just because you notified it as artistic.
I also use that method to prevent of what happened in the past on votivkirche, a map which is tagged as artistic yet even unfinished but still having a total rating of 516 with 55 votes. If you compare that to a gameplay map, it seems to be very unfair of how the map has been judged.

I've decided to take a break of all this commenting and replying for some days (maybe even a week, who knows?) and let's see what happens.

I think most has been said. Especially the reasoning you provided above about how you approach an artistic node is solid. I don't agree, but there is also no need to argue with that.

Just one thing: (Forget the tone in which I brought it up, I don't blame you for deleting that comment) I do think it was appropiate to bring up evilness, because there is a similarity which was relevant to the discussion. In evilness, you created a certain atmosphere by making the map dark. The same was applied in a part of cphills. I didn't bring the reference to evilness because you created it, but because you liked it dark. The intention was to point out that it is not obvious at all why the dark area in cphills would be such a problem in principle, when you approve of darkness as a valid way to create atmosphere elsewhere. So yes, this was done in order to make your comment look less valuable, but isn't that inherent to a discussion? Bringing up things that contradict the other's statements to strenghten your own point?

I actually found the node kinda funny, I have seen it as a comment on stupidity and not as a personal insult.

That's exactly how I assumed you ended up creating your "guide". And I'm glad you (or some other moderator) removed it again. Sometimes, in the heat of the moment, people (including me, of course) say or do things they didn't think through thoroughly. I'm just wondering: Had a similar joke made by someone other than a moderator stayed visible that long?

If you read my posts from the last 4 3/4 years, you'll notice I'm not argueing with everything I read. Indeed, I've been argueing quite a few times with moderators, but that's often because I perceive statements like "due to a lot of free time" or "not fully understood the concept", especially when written by a moderator, as condecending and feel the need to respond, instead of ignoring it.

To be honest, no not really. We don't get many regulars here and most of them are likely familiar with the concept of unzipping. That "joke" (or insult-to-one's-intelligence as i see it) was meant to express.. well, some people shouldn't be allowed on the internet, some can barely even speak their native language.
Besides, if it didn't stay up for a little while nobody would see it, and that would beat its purpose. The term "RTFM" fits in this occasion perfectly, but replace the "M" with "G" for guide.

Why not? Better talk it through here than later on elsewhere.

Where here to gain support to others about maps, modding and mayhem, not to criticize people. If you are here for the second reason, then there is no place for you here and I would suggest to discuss it on an IRC channel instead.

I just thought this thread was created to keep such discussions here and prevent other threads from being hijacked by such off-topic discussions. But as most couldn't read sinsch's comment, we'll have to rely on your judgement as to whether sinsch's comment was appropiate in the context of the thread.

I won't explain it again why we censor such statements.
