I don't want to see it go.
Without camera rolling when strafing, the game will feel to static and boring by default. I know the "maxroll" isn't aimed at realism, because sauerbraten is far from realism. The rolling effect actually gives a nice touch to becoming skillful at timing shots when you are strafing.
I've personally never liked the idea of a completely static crosshair, it makes games feel like you are flying around a piece of modelling software or as if the entire map is nothing but a gigantic plane.
Personally i think the game is better with this, and it could be even more fun with a slight wobble to the crosshair when actually moving. It's adds a challenge, you can become skilful at it, etc, it makes the game harder.
Of course you can disable it if you don't like it, the game is open-source, but rather it would be nice to keep it as a default feature for the sake of it being there. The reason why i don't play any console/commercial games these days, is because they are too easy, so many things which people claim "it makes the game harder to play" are removed due to criticism. Tiny things like camera roll and wobble make the game a challenge to play, i dunno about everyone else but if i wanted to play a point and click game that took no effort i would disable my adblock and i'd look for a "shoot the target and win an iphone" advert...
Maxroll works just fine and i don't see why it should be taken out :S
