Detailed description

This is a sci-fi styled CTF map I've had in the works for quite a while; the first layout was actually made over a year ago, and it's been sitting there 90% finished for six months. Well I finally got the lighting half decent, and I'm sick of working on it so tonight it gets uploaded. The working title was "aero", but I can't think of a good name atm so I'm just calling it turbulence. Please leave a review, feedback, etc. Thanks!

EDIT 1: Re-uploaded with Razgriz's suggestions + some small texture tweaks.
EDIT 2: Sky texture error fixed.
EDIT 3: Significant texture changes. (Cleaned up places that looked too 'busy.')
EDIT 4: Simplified plenty of geometry, clipped a lot of trim, re-did some textures and lights.
EDIT 5: Re-worked the spiral staircases to improve flow. Lighting, texturing, and clipping fixes. This is the final release unless someone spots a big mistake.

This certainly looks interesting, i'll be sure to try it out. I do hope you were using the SVN when completing it though, so much new stuff to look forward to in terms of editing. Especially the remip.

I'll also search for little problems here and there, but if they're too many i'm afraid i'll either have to upload the map file for you anew or ask you to come to a server. :)

Definitely a must download map, great texture selection, the game play is fun, and good structural geometry. However I have one error with the sky texture. Either way, should be starred content!

No problems with the sky for me, but i did have trouble with the cloudlayer being insanely small in scale and also insanely low. It was also moving very fast.

However, a few points miscreant should pay attention to. Load the map on the SVN. Set lightprecision to 32 and lightlod to 4. Set lighterror to 1, skylight 52 52 78, ambient 15 22 30, blurskylight 2, spinsky 0, yawsky 60, sunlightpitch 40, sunlightyaw 159, sunlightscale 0.85, sunlight 207 207 255. Set cloudscrollx 0.004, cloudscrolly 0.007, cloudscale 1, cloudheight 0.2, spincloudlayer 0.1 and uhh.. delete your light entity with 0 radious that you use as the map's sun. It's not needed.

That should fix most of the glitched lightmaps seen all over the map.

Nice, thanks for the ideas. I never used the sunlight command before, too used to the old fashioned way. Also the clouds...they were purposefully "low" because of the skybox perspective, but they look good where you set them. I just re-uploaded with all your suggestions. There's still a skytexture error though. :s

I'm not getting the skybox error at all, perhaps if you redefine the skybox and save it will go away.

The reason i readjusted the clouds was because they were so small and so low that the top part of the screen where the clouds should be was cut off. Perhaps you didn't notice that because your screen's resolution may be smaller or much larger than mine, i don't know.

Although the traditional abstract sci-fi themed battle arena is not my cup of tea, I think this map is fabulously goodlooking. Even I feel invited to engage in a merry shootout. Gameplay etcetera are for the veterans to judge, but I'll give you 8 points anyway.

Oh oh, now it "requires a newer version of cube2" and the fun is over...

I just ran around for a minute and noticed the bad clipping. Trims aren't nocliped at all, which makes it sometimes quite annoying to navigate trough while trying to aim on opponents.
Some textures have been used on geometry which doesn't seems to be fitting at all (like some corner/box-texture as vertical trim).

I'll check out the map better soon.

After a review I would like to add this.
Theming
The theme is quite original, I like the soft-futuristic look.

Texturing
As I previously said, the map still has some odd texturing, like using a texture as vertical trim while it's commonly used (and probably intentionally designed on that purpose) as a box or corner texture.

Geometry
The geometry isn't that great as I was seeing on the screenshot. Disappointed me a little bit. The trims could have a way more even thickness, while curves (like in the staircase next to the flags) could be way more curved.

Lighting
On some spots it's pretty white, but overall, I like it.

Detailing
There have been added a fair amount of details, but I'm sure it could be way more detailed. keep it up!

Clipping/noclipping
It has some odd errors/mistakes like on the clipping-ceiling (where you sometimes just leave open space between material). As I previously said, almost all trims lack noclipping (which decreases the flow and gameplay).

Flow
The flow is overall fine, except of those trimmings of course.

Gameplay
I noticed there aren't many pickups at all on the map, but it could be easily played with 16 people. What about adding some more ammo in it?

The screenshot actually knocked me out way better than the map itself did. For now, I'll give 8/10

I went through earlier and took care of a lot of the textures, trim and clipping; its still not totally done yet. I'm also considering redoing the spiral staircase or else just making that area a jumppad. I don't know, though; more likely I'll just be lazy and leave it alone.

As for detailing...I've actually been getting rid of details; I'd rather have simplicity and easier navigation. The bottom route, for example, is much smoother now. No vertical indentations on the wall.

Thanks for the detailed review though! Always gives me ideas of what I should focus on fixing.
