Well, the jumping issue can easily be solved by adding a crackle or something at the edge where you could jump down, nothing fancy, just something that will make the player remember for next time "ah, right, that's where I can jump down" :D

And about the teleport, I didn't mean to create an actual model, I meant to build something in cube that looks like a portal :) There's lots of maps that have done this before :) Just throw a teleport ent inside and make the portal a noclip ;) I believe this might give your map another really nice touch :D (Edit: Actually I noticed you've created one allready using particles porting you to the top :D )

As said, they're just minor changes but might add a bit to the map :)

Don't get me wrong but I totally agree mysterious, I'm also splitted in 2 pieces.

It's a very nice tought, but that doesn't take away the other long boring paths (like to teleports, after spawning from some teledests, etc. Can't name those paths but there are much at the sides of the map).

I would like to notify you that the 3th and 5th floor of those big structures in the middle of the map have no lightsources, while they do have light-entities. This creates a very unnatural feeling. If I were you, I would fix it...

Well eirhul... you mentioned -in my opinion- one of the ugliest map included in Cube2, and those slanted doors are ugly as well. By the way I added a big portal with a sort of blue "shield" that can be crossed by players but not by weapons, give a look if you have the time.

Mysterious: Valhalla was my first map published here, almost 3 years ago, you probably missed something along the way...

That won't take away the fact that the map is very similar to valhalla.
Here some examples:
- The layout, it's open and full of portals and jumppads.
- The flow, 1 much long and straight lines to goals like a base or a flag wich only just some small direction changes.
- Same atmosphere of the gameplay (when you run around, you feel like you can get shot every second, isn't very relaxing like that since it creates more stress, wich shouldn't be the set up for a game)...

Great thing you updated your map and fixed those lights!

I'm sorry but I think the map will be just as disasterous as valhalla is when it comes to gameplay and flow. Of course, the lighting, texturing and detailing are way better!

- yes the layout is open and it is *on purpose*, you can stop repeating that like a parrot;
- "disasterous" gameplay, your opinion, it's just a matter of taste (as usual);
- I created both Valhalla and Asgard mainly for CAPTURE, then for unknown reasons Valhalla was put in the CTF list. It is pretty obvious that maps like these ones are not the best on insta modes: guess, if you play this map in capture mode you could even get some fun. Give it a try.

even on a plain map with 2 flags and 1 playerstart i would have fun and a battle with my enemy.

tbh, i think a map big as asgard has to be open to catch up with the flag carrier once he has your flag!

Of course it's allowed, It's up to you to decide to make such map, but those guys aren't making those tutorials for nothing. You can't deny that there isn't any sense in it.

No, i watched your maps clearly and i always fall in love with your experimental designs. But i will give you some examples :

All those maps got an individual theme, which I like a lot. But they all got a boring/frustrating layout AND they all had been released the last three years.
So I think YOU probably missed something along the way.

Don´t get me wrong ! You are a good mapper and valhalla isn´t as disastrous as most people think, but they all fail with the layout (or parts of it). I know it´s quite hard to create a good layout (watch my "Village of Euphoria"-map , which also has bad spots) but they all feel the same and so they get BORING/FRUSTRATING.

I hope I could help yourself a little bit more, but i dislike saying I would have missed a lot although most of it is true.

The shield thing works well. Could maybe make it pulse/scroll a bit faster to make it look more etherealish, but otherwise it provides good cover.

Update 23.05.2011:
- tuned up the barrier/shield with a new pulsating texture;
- added two pillars on the bottom of the map at the healthboost spot.

I hope you know you will get the "edge-camping" effect because of those barriers?
People will just stand in the barrier, come out for a split second and attempt to kill the enemy. It really would slow down the gameplay and would turn the map into an instateam instead of instactf.
At other modes (like capture and regen capture), I've noticed it's way too easy to defend bases at each other side of the map. So when you have 3 bases at 1 side of the map, it's very tough for the opponent to capture 1 of them, since your at another base in just a few seconds (like from the bases wich is on the main floor, close to the stairs to the base wich is inside the huge structure. It only takes like 2 or 3 seconds, while capturing a base takes way longer).

I think the camping there might actually be somewhat interesting, since if both sides try to camp the barrier, they will just annihilate each other because it is so easy to step through, unlike just putting a big crate there. Rather, it would introduce a strategic element of controlling that point which could add some extra replay value to the map. Otherwise people would just camp at the ends of the bridge and shoot across anyway.

My only hint for 1 of your next creations is, get some more variation in the style of gameplay and flow.

Its just critic and not more

Nice improvements, but I think you could lower the ammount of triangles on the map by deleting all geometry which is from the half to the bottom of the lava pool (so actually just making the pool less deep). Players aren't able to see trough the lava any ways, so it won't have any effect on atmosphere or what so ever.
It doesn't saves a lot, but it decreases the wtr by a number close to 1k of triangles. If you would keep try and think like what isn't necessary then I'm sure you could decrease the wtr by something like 20k.

Another example is the back of every statue that is placed around the map. If you would skytexture all back of those statues, it would save even more triangles. I've tried out myself and managed to get the map to 199k of wtr, by only doing so at 1 side of the map. That means it saves up like 5k of wtr! I'm very sure if you would look even more tight to what can players see from certain areas and what not, it would decrease the map's wtr to 190k (which looks way more playable than the currently ammount of wtr).

So there's still a lot to do on the map, but yet again, nice improvements!

The sky-texture does not remove polygons, it prevents light-maps from being calculated for that surface.

It is still useful for reducing the number of light-maps calculated, and the file size.

The map is over, like it or not. By the way thanks for suggestions; just to make you happy I lowered the pool, skytextured all the hidden parts and also removed 4 useless lights. The wtr now are (on my system) 198k (not 190k) and the file size is just slightly reduced (5,47Mb instead of 5,58Mb or something). If a performance improvement happened for sure I didn't notice.
Unfortunately the server doesn't allow me to upload the new package, could an admin help me again please?
