wow, mr.fixit is soooo much better, you should make more wallpaper with him. and backups in transparent background. all antialiased if possible :P

its hard to anti alias an image when its not rendered anti aliased. i have to use blurs and then again i have yet to find a sharpening tool that doesn't enhance the colors' intensity rather than their formation.

edit: if models could look this way ingame they would really enhance the visuals, its really nice :O

they were rendered with 8x AA, I've upped it to 16x now. I initially rendered them as big as these but rescaled to fit them in the pic, maybe that messed with the antialiasing since some rescalers use AA when rescaling. I couldn't see any difference. Here are the transparent high definition pics:

There are quite a few variants of japanese swords, I made one out of random memories. Since scaling isnt applicable because it's a scifi pig it's gonna be hard to tell which variant it's closest to, but maybe this one? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nodachi

lets do some math

"The length of the nodachi's hilt varied between twelve to thirteen inches (30 to 33 centimeters). The blade was usually around four feet long" -wiki (cuz they are always right:p ; this means that hilt + the blade = the full length, or about 5 ft )

The average man in the world is about 5' "11 ish (all depends on which poll you use). The player models are actually about 4' 11" (if you determine by the about of skulls or heads they are tall). Here are some measurement (taken in fireworks):

sword 578 px
ironsnout 387 px

taking in account of persecutive and common error we will add 13px to the ironsnout and take 28 px from the sword (this leaves them to 400 and 550 respectively; it also makes it easier to calculate).

if the ironsnout is 5 foot (like i suggested), then the sword is about 7' 6", meaning that the sword according to wiki is about 2' to big. So generally speaking if you but the sword up end to end next to the model it would exceed one and one half of the ironsnouts, when it should be about 1 ironsnout (assuming that the ironsnout is about 5').

"ōdachi is apx. 65–70 inches long" -wiki

The other sword time listed is the ōdachi (or great sword) which is about 6' (6' is actually 72"; Note: this includes the blade and the hilt). NOTE: "they were found to be effective on horse back" - wiki

Point being that this sword is completely out of proportion and is not the correct size according to any standard :)

oh and about the "math" you did, some of the renders are rendered orthographic, which means your proportions dont match up. Now go away you annoying bastard ;)

have you ever seen games like quake3 arena or even WoW? all those weapons arent a realistic size to handle in reality...

yes i understand it your stuff so make it however, all i was saying was that the sword was way out of proportion. As for perspective i took 28 px out of the sword to 550 (550/578 = 95%; -5%) and added 13 px into ironsnout to 400 (400/387 = 103%; + 3%). So i took a 8% common error in your favor for the proportion, which is plenty for the given angle.

My comment was not to knock you and say that your horrible at modeling, which is obviously apparent that your a great at modeling, rather i was trying to help you make your sword look better, and you wallpaper look better :)

Yes i have, look at the models (i mostly looked at wow), they all have a realistic proportion to the human form, they are all (at least the ones i found on google) about 3/4 of a human at most, and about 1/2 to a 1/3 at least. The proportion on all weapons in professional games are realistic, it would bug your eyes if they were off just slightly. This is how you can tell the difference between a real model and one done by a beginner or amateur.

I used materials from Sweblend Material Library Vol.1 by Markus Kothe for the axe, "leather", "chrome", "steel" and I modified the "wood" to make it darker.

the ironsnout pics are deliberately rendered without AA so that the inking effect would behave as I wanted. If you apply a blur filter you will see that the effect is lost in 2 of them.

I'm sorry about the size, made them for webpage backgrounds initially and I havent got all the files left to render with higher quality.
