This content is compatible with older edition(s) of the game it was made for, and is not guaranteed to work with the current or development versions.

Blurb fixes the empty trigger menu

Detailed description

This patch implements a three step menu for trigger creation.
Replace the line
newmenu trigger
in your data/menus.cfg with the contents of the patch file.

You will create your triggers from the menu by the following steps :

first it's visual style
1. invisible
2. a carrot
3. switch #1
4. switch #2
5. Door #1
6. Door #2
7. Door #3
second the trigger type - see documentation for reference table;
1. animation loop
2. trigger once (popback)
3. trigger once (popback & rumble)
4. trigger once
5. trigger once (rumble)
6. trigger multiple (popback)
7. trigger multiple (popback & rumble)
8. trigger multiple
9. trigger multiple (rumble)
10. door (open once)
11. door (auto close)
12. door (locked)
13. vanishing trigger
14. vanishing trigger (rumble)
15. End Of Level Trigger
third is the trigger index. (1..9)
Use "/entproperty 3 +/- X" to tweak;
place doors carefully on grid and use entproperty 0 to rotate mapmodels.

Thank you MeatROme! That empty trigger menu was making me crazy (that explains my bad attitude, haha).... Got to give you a rating on this one, it's a download that has high priority... :D

And, please, my attitude can go bad when I'm feeling ill, and
that is very often, I guess.

Electric Axel, you come from Spain and then you throw yourself into the jungle of Sauerbraten players who speak English? You really should go find a spanish Sauerbraten community... And we can't really write everything so that you understand it - every single node doesn't have to be written in easy language just because of a single user saying that he doesn't understand english so much. You can't just walk in here and say "hey I'm spanish, everyone switch to the easy English language so that I understand". Not everybody wants that, you know.

Erm.. did you understand??

I changed the line you told me to change with the new lines. The new menu worked, but not to 100 percent - I could zap through the menus, but when I've chosen a trigger to use there is nothing appearing on the map. I have "drop entities..on selection" enabled.

What happens if you select

"a carrot"
"vanishing trigger"
"Trigger #1"

..., eh?

Do you get any messages on console?
recheck your stdout (stdout.txt if on Win32)

Nothing. Just a spark in the middle of the selection, nothing more.

Okay, that's what this menu does.
if you savemap and then reload the map there should be a carrot there and it will trigger (if you followed the 3 steps above) level_trigger_1 alias.
after that the carrot has been eaten and will disappear.

the model (for carrot, doors, etc.) will only be displayed on trigger placement if the map already uses the model, if it's the first of its kind the model is not yet in memory!

...ohh. Right. But how can the "door" menu know which mapmodel to be used as a door (i.e. "mapmodel 1")?

Look into data/default_map_settings.cfg
There you see the default arrangement for mapmodels,
that is what the menu "expects".
If you are creating a custom map - with a custom mapmodel set - you will need to modify those values by hand.
Use something like
/entproperty 1 +1
or
/entproperty 1 -1
or
/entproperty 1 +42
to modify the currently used mapmodel for already placed models.
And
/entproperty 0 +/-X
to modify it's orientation - especially doors need to be aligned pretty neat to look good - aim for values like 360/0,90,180,270.

Can anyone help? I did the changes to menus.cfg.

Although the menu now works, and I can insert "Triggers", the triggers themselves do not work.

If I add, for example, a door (using the newly created Triggers menu), the door shows up in the map, but when the player approaches it, it still does not open. This is the same with the carrot example above (the carrot does not disappear).

I have saved my map and re-loaded to see if that worked, but still no.

Anyone's help is much appreciated.

Are you running in SP mode? Save your map ...

/savemap temp

... and load it in SP mode, like this:

/sp temp

Did you have any CFG file for your map? Then get out of Sauer, go to packages/base in the sauer folder - then duplicate your CFG file, and rename it:

temp.cfg

Go back and try again. (Doors do only work in SP!)
