Ok you want a more elaborate comment: so be it:
The map has a very squareness to it. The maps that are considered playable need not only to be playable structurally (game play) but also must be appealing to the mind. A person looks at your map and makes judgments before even playing the map. You can have a great layout but without proper texturing or lighting then you will have only bad comments ever made about you maps. This map lacks details mapping skill texture and lighting, which is fine it is a learning process.
To start with; Details are critical to a maps success! You cannot over detail (of course you can but for sake of argument you cannot). Work on detail, right now you have many towers that look all the same, no variation, extreme perfect unity. Unity is great to create an idea of theme but there must be some variety else you will bore your viewers. Work on making more detail in texture and in the structure of the towers.
The great maps are not made by what is on the map but the details that cannot be reached. Let me explain this: there are some maps, especially some of the cube 1 maps and some of the first cube 2 maps (aka the classics). My point is that the background, or unreachable should tell a story about the map, where is it, why is it, when is it, so forth. Map must answer these basic questions in some way. Although some are vaguer than others all maps answer these basic questions through texturing, lighting, formations, and mmodels (map models).
Cube is great:
The cubes are just fine and dandy but you need some more geometric shapes, say maybe a circle or a sphere or maybe even a slated cube. In cube one it was ok to make levels that contain many cubes and had very little detail because a lot of this detail was impossible (if you don’t understand do some research). Now in cube 2 we have to hold a higher standard on the maps that are produced. You need to work on the detail of your map, find a place to create, and create it.
Please include wpt files here.
For jpg use the same as the one you uploaded, just put it next to the ogz (map), wpt and this jpg file. Inside of base were you have it :)
