Is it possible to convert strings ("word") to array of chars ("w o r d").

I am trying to sort strings alphabetically and was wondering if it is possible to convert a string into an array so that i can look at each character in a word using cube script.

The `substr [value] [start] [count]` command in tandem with `strlen [value]` should do the trick.

val = "word"
len = (strlen $val)
arr = [] // empty value
loop i $len [
    chr = (substr $val $i 1)
    if (strlen $arr) [ arr = (concat $arr $chr) ] [ arr = $chr ]
]

if (strlen $arr) [ arr = (concat $arr $chr) ] [ arr = $chr ]
this if statement is pointless sense you have already defined arr

if you define arr like:
arr = ""
then instead of the if put:
arr = (concatword $arr " " $chr )

This would speed up the process by not having to run an extra if in the code. This may not matter for one word, but if you are running a couple of hundred words this will give a slight edge to it.

arr = (concat $arr $chr)
in order to save from using 8 useless characters more ^^

Incorrect, yours would have a superfluous space at the beginning. This is also why I don't help people, you give them an example to help with their problem and all they do is argue semantics. Is saying "thank you" really that fecking hard?

How about we compress the code even further to avoid this problem in the first place.

By the way the " " that this forms is monatatery the extra will cause no problems.
Example:
n = " J D G D "
will still come back with the value of 4 when:
listlen $n
All white space is ignored only used as a marker to separate the elements of the array.

Why don't you just use the string as an array?
Instead of using the 'at' command just use 'substring'.
For example:

loop i (strlen $val) [
chr = (substr $val $i 1)
//do stuff with the character
]

I'm suggesting this because putting it in an array really doesn't help because you cannot swap, store, or delete value out of an array.

On what Quin wrote and the err...responses
You could remove the 'superfluous' space at the beginning by doing this:
arr = (substr $arr 1)
