Detailed description

I have been working on this map and textures for a while. There is no real story behind it and the textures are still not bumpmapped and such. I am still stuck with my old Athlon 1800 and a Gforce 3 card, so fancy graphics for me yet, perhaps later this year, i don't know when.

The other map with the working title "Pontifex" is still on hold because i use textures for wich i need permission to use them, so that will also come later, still it gave me inspiration the go to GC-textures and start working on my own textures again, that site has grown in the last year, and its textures are topnotch.

Well furthermore, enjoy the map, have fun and let me know if there are problems that should be sorted out!

Edit: Oops, wrong package config, should be working now.

Edit: Because of some problems i have uploaded a new zip-archive, maybe this works.
Those who already have downloaded and experienced no problems, this is still NOT the updated versie, so don't bother ok?

Edit: Some small updates, improved lighting in the basement

This map looks amazing in the screenshot, but your packaging is wrong.
You threw all the files in the same folder and I need to manually put them in their place. :/

Please fix the packaging.

I use PicoZip and have the boxes "Restore Original Folders" and "Create Stored Directories" checked, if unzip in the Sauerbraten folder it should place itself into right folders.

No. I mean exactly what I said. All the files are in the exact same folder.

edit- It must be a problem on my end. Sorry BlikjeBier. I extracted and it worked perfectly. :/

Beautiful map, amazing job with the texturing and lighting. The lights fit very nicely, and the sky-lights up top, the blue window, are very nice.
The only thing I questioned at first was the lava, not perfectly fitting with the rest of the map, but after running around a bit, it seemed to balance the map out. The warm coloration from the lava seems to complement the map in my opinion.

Anyway, i will look at the cellars, do something about the lighting there and improve the flow of this map, but i have more to do this week, and it has to do with www.animecon.nl, so have patience, alright?

very interresting map, the screenshot looks amazing!
-geometry, speaks for its own.
-texturing, same thing.
-lighting, i really dislike the lights at the lowest floors, they seems to be very stranged mixed with the ambient.
-flow, great.
-gameplay, cant say much about.
-theme, i dont see the sense of the lava in the lowest floor, the theme seemed to be like similar to shindou, DM_BS1, but that just doesnt put sense in the theme.
-clipping/noclipping, what about clipping those grill plates above the lava? this would increase the flow either.

anyways nice map, i like it! just a few points that could be better in my opinion. 8/10!

Be my guest, there is no way i could test it for myself with that Gforce 3 card, that's why i did not bother to do more with the textures.

ok i did take a quick tour of the map, and i have to say its pretty nice but..

not many "details" to go about OMG WOW. i mean the map is kept simplistic, maybe that your choice on your end to keep the map running on your computer, i respect that.

As others said, the lava in the basement is totally a "wtf" offtopic feature. I suggest you find another thing to fill up the basement instead of those. maybe you could make pipes coming out of boiling water.

I will start texture enhancing tomorrow :3

The map looks really great except for the basements, which need a lot more lighting. The light cast on the ceiling from the lava looks really strange and quite bad. Furthermore, details like the two stairs in the basement are almost invisible due to the bad lighting. Add some more lighting to the basement areas and this map is an instant classic. :)

I don't understand. I've tried downloading this map something like 5 times now, and every time I open the zip there are no visible files in there. I try to extract and I'm told it's not a valid zip. All the while, the zip still has the 3.53 mb size, and the download actually finished..

Any ideas on the problem?

well the file is ok for me though so..

if you're on windows, try using 7zip or IZArc to extract. they have a very large library on compressed archives and can open up almost anything together. if you're on mac or linux, i have no idea :/

Files seem to be located in a NULL named directory (everything is packaged as if it were extracted to /), see:

indeed, that must be the reason some utilities cannot open the archive. i also wonder how it is possible to leave a folder nameless, so i assume something went wrong while zipping, as this "null" folder shouldn't actually exist.

Could you try again, i have uploaded a new zipfile, the offending slash "\" should be gone now. Oh and you should extract to the Package directory now.

It looks like i still have some problems getting those zip-files right, i think this comes because of the fact that Sauerbraten is located on my F-drive.

Yes i know, but i did not bother to correct that since it won't be used in Sauerbraten itself. Call me lazy for that :)

Wich is also not true, about being lazy because last sunday (april 25th) i returned from a 3 week trip to Japan and i had a deadline approaching this week to finish a 80 page festival booklet and still have a bunch of work to do before the festival opens its doors on may the 21st ( www.animecon.nl ).

i still love the detailing, texturing geometry, etc, but the lighting stays kinda strange and unlogical at the lava. all over map there are pools of lava, wich lots of overbrighted yellow lights just above it. this doesnt gives a natural feeling.
what about just get over the idea of using such thing like lava in the map? i think it doesnt fits the theme and the textures of the map.

the textures should be included in the next official release of sauerbraten btw, they are freaking cool :D.

hmmm amazing screenshot...but how about the rest ?

+great geometry
+nice lightning

-mirrored and hard to play imo
-its a map like konkuri-to or shinmei and the problem is , they arent often played because the gameplay isnt the best at all , so im sceptical with this map

All in all nice textures , ok map and another crazy name ( is it chinese ? :)

Okay apparently I never actually checked out this map, but I have now.

Textures look nice, but don't always mesh. Also, bumpmaps.
For the windows, alpha-blended textures were recently implemented in SVN (texalpha in editref.html, SVN r2704), so you may consider changing the windows to that for the impending release (or, in the meantime, an alpha-blended model--Cube 2 supports them, right?).

Also, the lava doesn't fit, and the whole map feels kind of horizontally cramped, but excessively vertically spacious. Oh, and some pickups are waaay too high. For example, some of the pickups on the outside stairs (adjoining the yellow armors) can actually be stood inside without picking them up. (I realize this is to ensure you can see them and get them going downhill, but moving them down doesn't hurt.)
Also, the ladder-stairs are pretty much invisible due to the identical textures between them and the walls,

the zip file you uploaded does not include a map. :/
edit: ok its there opened with 7zip. something is wrong with the windows zip opener.
