Blurb A strange building on an island is discovered...

Detailed description

April 21st, 23:30
We've docked at the shore to take a look at the strange building.
Hmm... it seems to be some kind of armory... We thought that there was
no armour on this island at all, until we infiltrated the deeper
sections of the buildings... Also, my divers has discovered a power
center in the below... that explains where the power came from. But
I wonder where the owners are now? There is a lot of ammo in the
hallways...

I'm feeling threatened by the balloon that is hanging over
our heads all the time. When I took my binocular to take a closer
look at the object I found there was nobody there, but then the
thought hit me - there must be someone there or the balloon would
be grounded long time ago ... This is a mystery not to be forgotten...

April 25th, 23:30
Okay we have this little island. But the enemies are not so far away, they say.
We use this island as a CONQUER island from now on....

Good luck exploring the unexplored!

I did I downloaded it yesterday and I think it has the eerie feeling you were shooting for. My main critique is make more places to explore. You have a great concept. I would like to see a tribal village there because you know all mysterious islands have tribes living there. :P Good start but keep up the pace.

redisforever | 2009-10-19 20:46

Why not make it abandoned, but it looks recently abandoned. Fires still burning, food still there, not rotted. But no people. No bodies.

thojoh370 | 2006-05-14 09:08

1. Did you find the teleport to the balloon?
2. Did you find the power generator?
3. Should I build more buildings, or?

MeatROme | 2006-05-14 11:32

@ 1.) not really hard to find, is it?!?
@ 2.) well, switching to edit mode will show you soon how to :-P
@ 3.) definitely

4.) why did you include packages/dash/ in your zip?
5.) there are texturing inconsistencies on your boat
6.) there are material inconsistencies with your water;
both below the boat - and in all of the generator room

thojoh370 | 2006-05-14 11:43

4. Maybe people are n00bs... ;)
5. I know
6. I know

makkE | 2006-05-14 12:04

Well I spawn facing a wall with ugly texturing. (have you noticed you can control the direction players face on spawn?)
Then I run around to find too much ammo and items, all crammed into one place for each type.
And I find a house, boat, water and some floor.

Is this really supposed to be played in multiplayer? Where´s the gameplay then?

Oh and by the way, the package is a mess. Do not include directories that are already exsisting, and BY NO MEANS include CVS files.
And "thumbs.db" has got nothing to to with sauer, it´s a windows thumbnail file, noone needs that.

thojoh370 | 2006-05-14 13:15

I just copied the stuff, I was never thinking about such details.
I did not know about the spawning.

Creating duration:
2 HOURS!
Not so much.

MeatROme | 2006-05-14 13:39

"I was never thinking about such details"

Well, in general terms : Just Do It!
More specifically : isn't that the reason you posted it here, to get feedback to improve on your oversights (like we all do) !?!

"Creating duration : 2h : Not so much"

No, actually not. Maybe this explains why this map really sucks - for now - it's got potential, I'll give you that.
But - so far - this is just a concept, it is by no means "ready to play".

Think more about _finishing_ your concept in a clean manner than getting your cool new idea out to the public as early as possible.
You should probably have spent at least a night sleeping over this primary (let's call it a) sketch and work on it for another two days before thinking about uploading.
In this stage of development I totally agree with makkE:

Less items, more cover/gameplay oriented architecture.
The house - while being of a "real life layout" - is not a very good area to be in while playing a multiplayer game - read makkE's excellent guide to mapping - especially the part about "long corridors".
The grande floor outside is also not very inviting - no cover, no items ...
... maybe this could better be made to be a SP map.
Your whole layout goes more into "storyline design" than "deathmatch arena" IMHO.

thojoh370 | 2006-05-14 14:09

Yes it is a SP game. I have the map myself.
But it is not to be published - that because of your comment.

SheeEttin | 2007-01-02 21:18

If it's not to be published... then why did you publish it?!

Sometimes your logic defies the laws of... logicity.

thojoh370 | 2007-01-05 10:42

Sorry, SheeEttin, can't remember why.

One thing I've to add that hasn't been said is that there's a general lack of detail and texturing. The house could use a lot of improvement, also the stairs are made of sand (WTF), also you can swim out of the map to nothingness. These are things you shouldn't do.

thojoh370 | 2006-05-14 18:23

Yes, I know that there's no "clip" material at the edges of the map.
That is, unfortunately, something that often gets to be forgotten.
Sand is the map's theme!

Passa | 2006-05-15 12:45

Your zip file has alot of junk in it..
1. packages/dash.. why did you reinclude it?
2. thumbs.db? Its a Windows system file from you using thumbnail view. on that folder.
3. All the CVS stuff from the /dash directory.

As a result, installation is rather convulted. Please fix this next time you update the map.

Comments on the map:
Looks EXTREMRLY unfinished. Please try not to upload the map when it is sooo not ready. It needs HEAPS more work. Gameplay wise it is rudiculous, shitloads of ammunition does not equal fun. Also, you used a total of about 10 textures in the map, you need more texture variety. Also the starting boat looks absoloutely dreadful, the textures on it look rudiculous as well, and there is too much health on it. Then the balloon, well gameplay wise again, its so small that if you fire a rifle shot from it, the recoil will push you out. Also it gets a little cramped if another player teleports to the balloon as well. Honestly, this map is not very good at all, and even in an unfinished state it is very bad.

Also, your screenshot, one part of the four sections is empty. And the images have been distorted alot, obviously because you resized them in paint. Try using IrfanView to resize images, it does a great job.

My rating: 1/5

"Also, your screenshot, one part of the four sections is empty."

I know, but why is the screenshot so important? The map is the thingy, y'know! :'-I
