Detailed description

Aqua4 and Aqua9 skyboxes by Mayhem

I used Bryce 6 to create these underwater skyboxes which consist of 6 .jpg files at 1024x1024 each. Type /loadsky mayhem/aqua4 to see it in-game, or try aqua9 for a deeper underwater experience.

I was inspired by an IRC conversation and though the application of it may be limited, I decided to give it a try. This is the result. Enjoy!

nice idea because underwater combat is actually quite fun. >.<

the skybox is veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery nice, great job mayhem
although the sea surface makes it look bad, i still give it 5 stars cause of the resolution and the imagination :D
and if you could make a cloudlayer that works like water ripples it would be great. but i think i'm asking too much. the game doesn't support dynamic skyboxes and cloudlayer D:

anyway, one last thing: am I allowed to implement this skybox in my QCP?

(lol when i first looked at it it seemed like the skybox bottomand the ship was a map! :P)

underwater! just what I wanted, although not to the depth that I wanted :(

it still looks like a nice skybox, and the license... CC-BY-SA, so consider it included in sandbox :D
and you might want to mention the license in the readme

I had actually abandoned the deeper ones in favor of the shallower, prettier ones. It seems a little washed out to me (no pun intended) but I hope this one is more to your liking. :)

this deeper underwater skybox is actually nicer then the other since it can't seem so fake (cause of water ripples on water surface and water shadows and the boat etc) nice :)

I took your advice and obscured the surface as well as kept out anything that might give indication of scale. I agree it's much more believable now.

Not bad. The detail's obviously there. As you said the applications are limited, and this is not just because of theme but the fact that the boat and sub seem so close, it's like being in a fishbowl.

The sun could use some work though as it doesn't seem natural. It looks as though it were brushed and actually doesn't seem like a sun.

I don't know much about cloudlayer or anything since I've not really worked with skyboxes yet, but could you not design a sort of semi-transparent 'cloudlayer' made up of lines so it looks as though water is drifting over the top? Maybe that's a bit out there but underwater looking up, you would see ripples.

Good skybox. I've not seen one like it.
