Detailed description

This is my first map I'd like to release to the public.

The idea was to create a remake of q3_dm6. The map has also been redone for UT2004 called "DM-Campgrounds". My goal was not to do an 1:1 remake and I tried to find an own style to do things. Also I wanted to get familiar to the Cube-Editor so this is not a real masterpiece of work. At least I hope that i got little experience and learned some lessons for a next map if there will be one.

I'm kind a fan of this map, so I did a short video to compare UT2004, Q3 and my version.

I like remakes yeah, but what I like even more is when someone comes up with something completely new.

Nice map, but why is it so special? All I saw was a bunch of hallways.

The answer to Why: Well, actually it's not special, I never mentioned that :>
For Sauerbraten it might even be a little too tight/small because the movement and the overall gameplay is very fast. But I can promise it's much more than just spamming a hallway and there is room for lot of different tactics and stuff.

I learned a lot from making this one, and my next map will not be a remake and I will have free hands to create a wonderfull theme and decoration and stuff.
But I didn't want to add any more additional things this time to keep the link to the original.

yes, that's my main gripe with the map too .. it's not really awful the way it is, but a number of parts are just a tad too small to get good sauerbraten fighting action in .. but it'd probably be a tremendous effort to keep the layout and compactness intact if those corridors were to be enlarged .. I guess playtesting would be the only way to decide on how bad this by-looks impression really comes through in gameplay.
The two healthboosts directly together though are obviously not the mark of optimal item placement for a sauerbraten map - the +20 max health would make the player that manages to get the first two and then maybe just the third and fourth rounds of that double-pack (if they don't spawn tremendously apart you'd just stay close) become much too powerful, not unbeatable (yet) .. but quickly approaching it, if his opponents are at all weaker players.
The basic brick texture also gets to be a bit boring pretty fast .. at least some play of light and shadow would already help to alleviate that.
Looking forward to the next map!

I agree the texturing is quickly boring, but their is some play of light and shadows. Maybe not intended.

About the layout: this map is a remake from a map originally from quake 3. And quake map were smaller than sauerbraten one, because of the design trend of those time. The increasing of mooving speed in sauer is not the only reason of bigger map, imo. It's an other trend of gameplay that doesn't involve perfect move most of the time, and rely a lot on dodging freely.

About the +10H : they don't spawn at the same time, so there should not be every times 2 or none HB at this place.

For a first map, it is OK.

As we can see in src/fpsgame/fpsserver.h (line 440f) [in "int spawntime(int type)"] the spawntime is randomized each and every time .. right .. when these times were still client-side only the first spawn was variable IIRC, respawn was fixed to one minute - still, even now only an average of 20 seconds difference once you've managed to get them both in one go - but I agree that's probably only easy when playing the weakest of opponents ;-)
