.. it is really not about my personal opinion about copyright laws, it is about generally acceptable behaviour .. something any and all communities must decide on. It is called a "code of conduct" - often called netiquette when applying to internet activities.

Especially irritating was (IMO) the clash between your DMCA (USA-only) critique and then also critizing the communist attempt of the USSR (again, I won't go into my personal opinion of this "experiment") ... what exactly do you want ... if everyone is supposed to be owning everything ... that's communism.

Regarding your allusions to "barred" player community I again cannot really grasp how you come by such an opinion - there's a number of maps that've been included into the release by people who've no "deep involvement" with the developers ... it is true that the developers have a certain vision of the way they want the project to go and so a good many maps - maps that maybe even a majority of community members enjoy - do not get included ... but there's nothing stopping you from playing them.

Actually, if eihrul, Quin, et al decide it's on par with other included maps, it's quite likely to be included with the release.

Though you should probably work on the lighting (and I should probably download the map :P).

Hell, two of my maps got included in the last release and i barely do anything for the community! If you work on your map day and night for the next two years, and let people critique it, AND fix the map accordingly, i guarantee that it will be included.

I don't care if anything I make even gets into an official release...that's NOT the point of the game. The point of the game is to have fun mapping and playing with it, not to "win" some ego points.

copyright opinion: the law must be followed lest it affect this community, this site, and/or the developers in a negative fashion. I can add any music I like to a map AFTER I download it. But if the game itself is somehow shutdown for something stupid like copyright violations...then there'll be no game at all.

In reply to your "opinion", I repeat myself: This map will never get included in sauerbraten, therefore it is meaningless to censor it in any way.

Don't be so sure. Everyone should be aiming for release quality types of maps anyway, otherwise what else have you to aim for (unless your map is purely artistic or conceptual)? Quad is here for you all to share, promote, and generally become better content designers. We're all hobbyists really.

Anyway, try to avoid an all out flamewar here please. Just consider both of you warned.

I have a request to make, if you care.
What about a branch of the sauerbraten repo that automatically uploads maps that have been hosted on quad and approved by the admins?
Then each release you get the best and brightest maps, and if you want to check it out early, do update sauerbraten/unoffical !

I guess because that is what Quadropolis is for, the Admin here do a great job of moderating and promoting posts to the front page, and now any map worthy of that stays there. This is not to mention the ratings system we've worked on in conjunction with the new views you can use to find content. Otherwise, what would be the point in having this site?

In the end, Sauerbraten controls Sauerbraten's content, and there has to be some sort of limit and criterion. eihrul has added a ton of new maps already this past week or two, some, if not most premiered here on Quadropolis. I'm both glad and excited to see the community buzzing with life as hit has been, and I hope we can all endeavour to continue that in the future.
