Feel free to use the 'Attachments' section at the bottom of the node editor, better than some external site.

Great map too, look forward to seeing more updates. I agree it can become a little repetitive texture-wise. If you are really interested in rotating textures see this, moreso - I'd suggest a different texture altogether, which is less prone to the "tiling effect" - by which I mean, something that looks the same all over like "gor/ST_GK_007".

I used the torch with no flame in it so that i could put a flame particle on top of it, but im gonna change it tho, cause the particle flame is to big! And, the particle doesnt work for you? you mean you get a "particle 0??" text instead of a working particle?

I noticed the rock texture started to look like a pattern, yes. But there wasnt any other textures that looked good if i combined it with the current one in my opinion. Im gonna add more buildings that may draw the attention a bit away from the rock texture. Maybe if i added some lights to some areas on the rock walls, it would look a bit better?

rotate and flip textures? honestly, i didnt know i could do that in sauerbraten. I remember looking over the forums, and someone sayd that the textures wasnt rotateable. Maybe that was about Cube1 tho, im nut sure.

Sounds like you have a good framerate, wich is good! I have about 70 fps most of the time when im outside, and i have close to 200 fps inside buildings, but if i look over the water towards the biggest castle like you did, my fps drops to 30 (laptup with 8600m GT).
gonna test the map on my other computer later to se the fps (alot weaker computer).

Adding sounds is a good idea! think im going to do that last tho, cause the map isnt finished and im gonna add more buildings first etc..

Torches: I place a smoke particle effect (type 1) over the flame of the #93 (lit) torch - this also produces a flickering on the map model which makes the flame look more animated. (I also place a light [naturally] and a map sound over the mapmodel to increase the illusion.)

Textures: Yes, you certainly can rotate, flip and resize textures in Sauer. You can also assign spec, bump, glow and parallax mapping of the textures (assuming the texture has the appropriate normal, spec, height and glow map files). Resizing (making larger) the rock texture you have chosen would help break up the pattern - though of course as you suggested placing objects/buildings in front of the rocks will also help break up the pattern.

Framerate: I am maxing out on 200fps in closed environments as well - quite imrpressed with the 8600m GT card's framerate you are getting (I am thinking of buying a laptop with a 8600 GT) - is that at 1440x900ish or 1280x800ish? You could try a little fog to see whether that helps the framerate.

Sounds: You will need a map.cfg to add sounds, but it does really help with the immersive quality of the map. Place them last by all means - I found I would spend quite a long time just walking around listening to the sounds I had placed in my maps, so it does become time consuming in its own right.

Was testing particle1 on the torch just now and it looks alot better that way indeed! Gonna have to run around for a while fixing the rest of the torches:P

about the framerate im getting, its at 1440x900! it feels smooth and fully playable if the fps is just above 35 imo.
Was messing around with the grassdistance on my map just to se how mutch grass this laptop can take, and i think il just leave the grass settings at default, hehe!
First i increased the grasssamples to 50, and the fps dropped a bit. my computer started crying at 100 (deafault is 25).
Then i tryed to increase the grasslod/grassdist, and i figured that it pretty mutch killed my computer if i increased it to much above the defaults!
So il leave the grass settings to who ever plays the map i gues!:P

Agree with the torches, but i couldnt find any "small flame" looking particle, and i think it looks kind of silly with a non animated flame. But the particles on the torches now is to big, it looks like its gonna burn the house down any moment:P
So the torches will be fixed!
Low fps doesnt suprise me, i get fps drops on some areas my self. Almost killed my computer when i was rendering lights etc..
I have done alot to make the map run smoother, but it seems that i have hit the limit of the sauerbraten engine. Im impressed tho, the engine is very flexible and it doesnt chunk like other engines when youre turning the camera from a low detailed area to a massively detailed one!
But, gues il be pushing the engine just a little bit further, cause the map isnt finished yet! was thinking about adding some kind of water palace and a bridge across the water, does that sound any good?

I agree with tyros, fireballs looks a bit ugly
Trere is some ways to fix it:
1) particles type 4, use for very small fire

2) particles type 9, use for torches (long flame)

3) particles type 8, use for large flames

i have replaced the particles with a standart smoke particle.

I know, but the map runns great on my computer, so i dont need to use fog myself. But isnt te map running very well for you?
Maybe i should add a bit of fog... i dont wanna ruin the nice view you can get in the map tho!

what spec are you using? just curious.
I tested the map on a computer with Geforce 6800GT, Pentium4 3,2Ghz and 2gb ddr2 ram today. But the fps was higher than 40 all the time. its weird cause the previous gothic map on the same computer had lower fps for some reason..

It's not really about the size or openness of a map all the time, it's about the number of individual (and number of small) cubes; /outline 1

I'd really think it would be to blame on the amount of vertexes/triangles being rendered, from water and lava surfaces to huge amounts of grass. grass is a real killer so /grass 0 should probably provide more speed than /fog 100 (you have to be kidding, how're you going to frag anyway)

about the lake; i made it flad to cause i though the player wouldnt be so interested in swimming around under water on this map, and that i could save some fps. but i could add some more detail under water anyway tho!It doesnt seem to hurt the performance yet:P

Gonna fix the mountains/rocks too!
